Yes, artificial grass has directions. After we manufactured the turf, we roll them up onto a core, this is very similar as how carpet being rolled up. Given the fact of most artificial turf’s blades are long, when rolling them, the blades got pressed and facing to one direction.

Artificial grass is made of polyethylene and polypropylene which have “memories” in them, once rolled up and being pressed to a direction, the fibers tend to remember that, even after being relaxed under the sun and fully installed and brushed up, the tips of the fibers/blades still pointing to the same direction by a margin that can’t tell by naked eyes. Given the fact how the visual effects of artificial grass reflecting the lights, any tiny little directional differences could be seen rather easily from the entire artificial lawn surface: this is not contradicted with the unnoticeable blades directions. In other words, even people can’t tell the directional differences on the blades themselves, but if there are fiber tips facing differently than other fibers, you will see that from the overall surface of the artificial grass lawn, very interesting visual effects: it is a bit hard to explain it without physically seeing this in person.

There is a way to make fibers facing the same direction: by heating them up and press them into one direction. Artificial grass fibers/blades react well to warm temperatures, when being heated up, it will help them to lose their “memories” and be easily brushed or pressed into desirable directions. Typically we will simply recommend to use heating guns (blow type) or hair dryers to get the job done.

I'm wondering which direction my pile should be going. Any suggestions?
I have no idea about this pile direction of artificial turf 'til now. It makes sense since it's rolled up and the possibility of bending the blades in one direction is common.
They certainly do. When we had our fake turf, we just left it under the sun for a bit then pressed the blades on the direction where we think it looks best.
Yes they do! This is why it's very important for you to know which way the blades bend and make sure that all of them are in the same direction, especially if you want your lawn to have a natural look.
