How does the S Blade-90 hold up to the heat?

| Feb 14, 2019 6:02 PM

Were thinking of installing this type of artificial grass here in Las Vegas. Were worried that with the extreme heat in the summer here the grass may get too hot to step on especially our dogs.

When it comes to the question of "holding up to the heat", there are two terminologies associated with it: dis-forming point and melting point. Everyone in artificial grass industry is using the "melting point" as the main reference to holding up to heat.

The dis-forming point is at what temperature the turf starts to dis-form: at this point, the shape of the artificial grass fibers start to change its form by curling, and the integrity of the turf start give away a bit, but not necessarily deteriorating except for the visual appearances. For S Blade-90 product, the dis-forming point is averaged at about 180 degree F.

The melting point is at what temperature the turf starts to melt: at this point, the artificial grass fibers will be melted down and part or all of the fibers will melt away leaving only the brownish appearance on the turf surface. For S Blade-90, the average melting point is 190-200 degree F.

We come across burning turf issues from time to time, most common case is the turf being burned by window reflections.

People to watch out for the vinyl fences around artificial grass, as the heat reflections from those vinyl fences can burn the turf.

I have noticed turf can get very hot in hot weather, it is always a good idea to use Tcool infill or rinse off the turf in hot areas. And if you need to get on the turf in a hot day, rinsing it with water will keep the lawn cool for a while.

I think it also has something to do with the thickness of the fiber, the thicker turf must withheld heat better than the thinner ones.

The turf does get warm in a hot day, but I haven't bare feet on them, not sure how hot exactly it gets.

Always watch out for reflections from windows, fencing, metal or lens (from yard light).

I have my turf installed at my front yard, haven't really feel how hot it gets, and I had the S Blade-90.
