How is artificial grass produced?

I just want to know how it's produced because I want to make sure that the process or the materials used does not include toxic chemicals.

There are basically three steps of manufacturing artificial grass products: Yarn extrusion, Tufting, Coating, on top of which is the key step of R&D. Being the innovative leader in the artificial turf industry, we are the only one of few manufacturers who engage with all aspects of artificial grass manufacturing.

1. Yarn extrusion: At this stage, we use polyethylene and polypropylene resins as main materials along with other ingredients such as anti-UV agent, color pigments and etc., going into mixing and extruders to product all different yarns including straight fibers and thatch. Once yarns being produced and coiled up, we move to the next step: Tufting.

2. The tufting part of the production normally is considered turf making, most of the manufactures of artificial grass are mainly engaged in this process: they are purchasing yarns from other companies, only to tuft the turf themselves, after tufting, they send the tufted grass to a coating company to put on the glue and pack things up. We do all of these in house, and can have a great quality control. During the tufting stage, we put the yarn spools on the tufter's racks, and tuft the yarns on two a double layer polypropylene primary backing (like cloth), once turf being tufted, we move to the next step: Coating.

3. All artificial turf that have been tufted are piling high in continuous length, such semifinished products will be moved to the coating section where polyurethane glue to be applied onto the back the turf to secure the fibers in place, such process is called "coating". As turf being coated and traveling through a 150-200' curing oven, turf is being cut into desired length and rolled up and packed with special designed tarp, at this point, freshly made artificial grass is ready to go!
