Putting Turf over an existing roadway

Roger Wilcox | Feb 12, 2022 7:08 AM

Hello, we are proposing to use turf over an exisitng roadway and have a potential section of over 6". We need the subsection to drain extremely well as the road has inlets centered in the roadway. We would like the subsection to drain to the exisitng inlets that are at the roadway surface. Can you suggest an alternate section or do you feel your standard section will work well?

If you are not able to excavate the roadway and build a sub base for your turf, you can use drainage board underneath to create drainage capability. Our artificial grass products have excellent drainage capacities themselves, however, without proper sub base you will not be able to materialize the turf’s drainage. For normal installations, we recommend to excavate about 3”-4” and use drain rock and decomposed granite to build a solid yet porous base before installing turf over. Or a drainage board should be used. To find out more about the normal sub base, please visit our installation guide at: https://www.globalsynturf.com/installation-guides.
