I have been wanting artificial turf for my backyard, but I was afraid of it getting hot for my kids and dogs.  I researched so many websites and spoke with so many turf companies.  I finally found someone that was very truthful and had a lot of great information.  I spoke with Tina at Global Syn Turf who really educated me on artificial turf and hot responds to heat.  This is what she said, she said that artificial turf gets hot in direct sun light in the middle of the day in the middle of summer.  Especially areas with ambient temperatures like Charlotte North Carolina.  There are several things you can do to keep the grass cooler like hosing the artificial turf to cool down at least 25 degrees in two minutes.  She mentioned some people leave their sprinklers in and use the sprinklers to rinse the artificial turf to cool it down.  Global Syn Turf has some other solutions for cooling the artificial turf like turf type and infill.  They make an artificial turf called Cool Blue and it comes in Lime and Olive color combinations.  You can go to their website to see pictures of both.  This turf is made with a hollow blade and it holds water to help cool the grass down.  The reason turf gets so hot in the first place is their is no water in artificial turf.  Real grass is made almost exclusively with water and that is why real grass is cooler.  Global Syn Turf also offers an infill called T-Cool that cools the turf down 30-50 degrees and here is how it works.  The infill absorbs water and slowly evaporates it thus cooling the turf down.  Tina said the best combination would be to install the Cool Blue turf and use the T Cool infill to have the coolest grass in the country.  I want to thanks Tina and Global Syn Turf for creating solutions to the heat issue when it comes to having artificial turf in my yard.
