As a landscaper working across Iowa, finding the right infill for synthetic turf that withstands our varied climate is crucial. GST's Green Sand has been an excellent addition to my installations. It helps keep the turf blades upright and adds a lush, natural green finish that enhances the overall appearance. It's also great for drainage, ensuring the turf stays dry and usable, even after our heavy rains. This product has consistently delivered quality results and satisfied my clients. A top pick for sure!
The only difference between regular silica sand and green sands are the color and price: our green sand is coated with green color which can technically blend in better with the artificial grass. Since the green sands take extra steps of coating and drying, the cost is higher than regular silica sand. You will not use sand as a base for artificial grass installations. Sand is not solid enough to serve a good purpose for artificial turf. We always recommend to use couple inches of drain rock and couple of inches of finer materials such as decomposed granite to quarter minus which to be compacted and solid to provide a smooth surface for artificial grass to be laid on. You don't put any sand under artificial grass, as the sands are too loose, if you use sand in your sub base, you will lose the solid integrity. Instead, we recommend using sands on top of the turf as infills which will hold the turf down with extra weight and also help turf blades to stand up better. For your base under artificial grass, you will need to have 2-2-1/2" drain rock, on top of which you need to use 1-1/2" decomposed granite or equal, compacted at 90% so you will have a solid yet smooth base to work on. Again, we don't recommend to use any sand under artificial grass. For installation details, please visit this link: https://www.globalsynturf.com/installation/
