Artificial grass has to be installed on a solid and smooth base: the turf is as good as the base. We always recommend to have about 4” of base build for artificial grass installations of which 2-1/2” of road base and 1-1/2” of decomposed granite. Such preparation will not only provide solid and smooth base but also guarantee the best drainage. For certain dry areas, the base building might be a bit different if the drainage is not a big concern.
