DIY Artificial Turf

I wanted to buy turf and have my husband and boys do the installation to save money.  I want synthetic grass for my kids and dogs to play on in my backyard.  My neighbors have it and I just love giving over to their house and walking on their turf.  They referred me to the company they bought it from called Global Syn Turf.  I called Global Syn Turf and spoke with a representative on the phone that was very informative.  She said they were a manufacturer and not an installer and could only sell the artificial turf through a dealer or distributor.  They referred me a dealer in the bay area who sent me samples.  I really enjoyed the Do It Yourself tips on their website.  They have tips on how to install the artificial turf in the yard, on a patio and even a rooftop deck.  There are different tricks you can do to make your yard looked striped by power booming your grass in different directions.  Another tip is to compact the crushed rock aggregate base in 3 inch increments because the vibrating plate is not effective in compacting more than  that at a time.  Your also supposed to cut the artificial turf from the backing and never from the top.  Your supposed to nail the grass about 1" from the edge of your hardscape and every 6-8" along the sides.  One of the most important tips is putting an efficient amount of infill in the artificial grass.  Depending on the total weight of your artificial turf you should put between 1.5 to 3 pounds of infill per square foot in your lawn.  Depending on the infill it can get rid of pet urine, make the grass cooler, make the grass stand up straight, hide seam, etc.  I recommend everyone call Global Syn Turf and check out their website.
