Do I need to prepare the dirt prior to installation?

Do I need to do anything to the dirt in my yard before having artificial turf installed? Is there any prep work that needs to be done at all?

I will assume you are planning to replace your existing real grass lawn with artificial turf. If it is the case, you will need to excavate the existing lawn along with some soil up to 4” deep. By doing so you are creating enough depth for building a sub base for the artificial grass. The soil or dirt preparation doesn’t have to be perfect as you will put a layer of drain rock right over the soil, after compacting, you will need to put a layer of decomposed granite or equal before installation of your turf: you will need to make sure the layer of your decomposed granite to be perfectly compacted and smooth.
