Most of our artificial grass products come in with the same drainage hole patterns, in another word, regardless the thickness of the turf, the amount of drainage holes will be the same. But certain specific products such as our Pet Turf, will have more drainage holes which provide extra drainage capability. Again, most of landscape turf will have the same amount of drain holes, on everage our artificial grass can drain 40-60 inches per hour which equals 3 times of a downpour from category 5 hurricane. So you can always have a peace of mind about our turf’s drainage capability regardless the thickness. On average, for most of our artificial grass products, the drainage holes are in a pattern of 4” (horizontally) by 8” (vertically), such drainage hole designs provide excellent turf drainage capacity at a typical 45-70 inches per hour rate. Water or liquids are going through the drainage holes on the artificial grass directly onto whatever base your turf was installed on. If your application is a typical landscape lawn, you will expect liquids go through the drainage holes onto your sub base which normally required to be a few inches of drain rock and decomposed granites ideal for optimized draining capacities. If you have your turf installed on a hard surface and needs the turf to drain, I will recommend you to use drain tiles to create the spaces underneath your artificial grass for drainage purpose. However, such drainage tiles won’t be necessary if your applications require no drainage such as projects for indoors. From time to time, you might not be able to use the drainage tiles for some outdoor turf installations on a solid surface, you will need to make sure that your surface have certain slope for water and liquids to dissipate sideways, in such case, the drainage holes on the turf won’t be functional as well as they were designed to be. Our Pet Turf artificial grass can drain up to 120 inches per hour which is a bout 10 times of downpours of a category 5 hurricane! Actually all of our turf can drain super well and whatever the water pour, Pet Turf’s capacity simply doubles that. One point people need to be aware is that your artificial grass drains as well as your base. Regardless the excellent drainage capacity of your Pet Turf, if you don’t build your sub base correctly, you will never achieve the ultimate results. There is a saying in the turf industry: your grass is as good as its base gets”. We need to look at artificial grass and it’s installations as “system”, not the grass product alone. With a good system done properly, your artificial grass will perform at its best, same theory applies to Pet Turf and its drainage capacity. You can find a lot of installation tips on our website along with primary guidelines.
