Such a great idea to use artificial grass on a wall as a back drop. It depends on what kind of wall you are planing to install the artificial onto: if your wall is regular Sheetrock interior wall, you can regular anchors and staples to tight the grass onto the wall; if you are installing artificial grass on a brick or concrete exterior wall, you will need to use much stronger concrete anchors to get the job done. Since the turf will be hanged vertically, you will need to choose the turf with lighter weight and with only green thatch only.

Yes, you can use artificial grass for a wall design, they actually look really good! It will depend on what kind of walls that you would like to put artificial turf onto, the installation method can be different. First of all, I will recommend you to use lighter turf if the wall is high so you don't have much of weight to it, also since people will look into the turf directly, I don't think you want to have turf with brown thatch in it, you should use "all green" turf which means artificial grass with green thatch. As far as installation goes, if you are installing the turf on a concrete or stone type of wall, you will need to anchor or drill anchor bases in such walls and then use strong zip ties, along at the edges, you can use heavy duty double sided tapes to provide a secure mount. If you are installing the turf on a wooden wall, things can be easier, you can use industrial grade staples to affix the turf, also I will always recommend to use heavy duty double sided tape along the edges.

HOA for different communities can have different regulations and rules so the best approach to your question is to reach out to your HOA directly and ask them. In most cases, HOA won’t care much about artificial ivy or grass for your back or side yard, and some HOAs might need plans for front yard. But again, there won’t be a general rule applying to all HOAs, it is always a good idea to contact your own HOA to find out the details. If you need any product information or documents to be used for your HOA, please feel free to call us at 877 796 8873 or email us at [email protected], thank you.

It depends on the size of your installation. If you only need a small piece installed with a width not exceeding 15', you might be able to do it yourself. But artificial grass is more like carpet, installation of turf does require some experiences and skills. For large installations that need turf to be seamed, you will need to consider to have professional installers. Here is the link for installation instructions:

As far as I am aware that most of HOA won’t bother to regulate artificial grass installations. Some more restricted HOA might have some rules or regulations for your front yard landscaping, but I haven’t heard any cases that HOA regulate homeowners’ backyards. For state of California which is considered the most regulated among the entire nation, previous governor Jerry Brown has singed a las to prohibit HOA from restricting artificial grass installations. Artificial grass is considered as drought tolerant landscaping options, therefore it is encouraged to be installed with government rebates incentives. Similar incentive programs are also offered in many other states.

Generally speaking, artificial grass is fairly easy to install. However, depend on the size of your area, I will always recommend to have a professional installer to do the installation for you so things won’t go wrong. If you let installation doesn’t involve any seaming and you are able to excavate and handle bulk materials such drain rock and decomposed granite, you might be able to give it a try.
