No, you shouldn't do that. The artificial grass is only as good as its base, without a good base, the artificial grass won't look or function well. One of the most important and necessary step of artificial grass installations is building the proper base. There are two main reasons to have a good base: drainage and smooth surface . Placing turf over current grass won't provide either good drainage nor a solid and smooth surface, so we won't recommend to place artificial grass over existing grass. This is very helpful!
I think the grass will also continue to grow and may produce mould since there's no proper ventilation under the artificial grass.

You can the artificial grass to whatever shape to fit your applications. Putting Turf over an existing roadway

If you are not able to excavate the roadway and build a sub base for your turf, you can use drainage board underneath to create drainage capability. Our artificial grass products have excellent drainage capacities themselves, however, without proper sub base you will not be able to materialize the turf’s drainage. For normal installations, we recommend to excavate about 3”-4” and use drain rock and decomposed granite to build a solid yet porous base before installing turf over. Or a drainage board should be used. To find out more about the normal sub base, please visit our installation guide at: https://www.globalsynturf.com/installation-guides. What holds the grass in place?

Typically, there are two main components kept your artificial grass in place: nails and infills. At the installation of your artificial grass, you need to put nails along the edges of your turf, at 4-6” apart, at the end of installation, you will need to put infills on the surface of artificial grass surface, such infills need to be at averaged about 2 lbs per square foot. Such nailing and infilling will secure your artificial grass in place to prevent expansions and contractions which to minimum the chances of failures of seams and edges of your artificial turf.

Does this have a non skid backing?

Our artificial grass do have non skid backing. When you flip the turf and look at the backing, you can see the stitch knots sticking out of the backing surface which provide great frictions when making contact with other surfaces.

Can I put this as a carpet inside my room?

You sure can. Our products are designed to be used both for indoors and outdoors. Our artificial turf is free of harmful ingredients and totally safe for human and pets. When you are using our turf products indoors, you will not need any infills, the best way to install it inside the house would be exactly the same as how you install carpets. Also when using our turf products indoors, I will recommend to use shorter grass so it will be easier to clean stuff off and you can use vacuum on them as well.
