Does the putting green require infill?

We always recommend to use infills on all our artificial putting green applications for the following reasons:

1. To help holing down the turf to minimize expansions and contractions.

2. To adjust (increase) the ball rolling speed: the more of the infill, the faster the balls rolling.

3. To provide cushioning for ball absorption, especially for a chip shot from a few feet away.

Typically, due to the tightness of the artificial putting green fibers, we recommend either 30 mesh or smaller sands to be used, and green colored will be ideal and blend in well with the putting green surface.

Does the 60 oz putting green still require 2 psf infill?

Yes, generally speaking, all putting greens require infills of 1.5-2 lbs per square foot regardless the faceweight. With sufficient infills, your ball speed will be ideal and your greens will have less expansion/contraction. Both our 60 oz and 44 oz putting greens are with bit dark shade of color. From installation standpoint, it is much easier to infill the 44 oz greens than the 60 oz greens as the 60 oz greens are much more dense that makes it difficult to brush the infills into the fibers. Does your artificial putting green require extra maintenance?

The beauty and big advantage of having artificial putting greens is that will need minimal maintenance if any! If you have your artificial putting green installed in a area that consistently have debris or leaves, all you might have to do is to blow off these when such things presented. Other than that, there won’t be anything else. From time to time, if you would like to increase the ball speed, you might want to add some more sand infills onto your artificial putting green, but such adding infills happen will be in an intervals of months if not years.

Are nails used?

Sometimes installers will use nails in the putting green turf to stabilize the installation. However, the. Type of nails used has to be without heads (or pins) and once installed, people won’t notice them at all. Regular 40D or 60D will probably not work as the mail heads will be exposed. I hope your installer has used the correct nails that not visible on your green,  of course it will always be ideal to only have infills to hold the turf in place without using any nails. Does putting green installation require a special base?

Not really. Regular sub base for any normal outdoor artificial grass installation will be good and sufficient for artificial putting greens. A typical sub base will be about 3-4” thick with bottom layer of drain rock and top layer of decomposed granite or equivalent top layer material to provide a smooth and solid surface. HOW MANY LBS. infill Putting Green Bckyard. Which one is best 315sq'

We recommend to use an average of 2 lbs per square foot of infills for your artificial putting greens: the infills can be regular sands or green colored sands, but the mesh size has to be at least #30 or smaller. Most of infills are available at 50 lbs per bag, so for a size of 315 sf, you will need about 12-13 bags of infills. Should I use smaller or large infill grain for putting green?

You always want to use the smallest meshed infills on artificial putting greens. Our putting greens were tufted very tightly and leaves very minimal room for infills to go in, you will have an extremely hard time to brush bigger grain infills into it. We would recommend to use either #30 or #60 mesh infills for all our putting greens.
