Artificial grass can get warm under direct sunlight, especially during hot summer days. However, the temperature it reaches is similar to other outdoor surfaces like concrete or natural grass. To keep the turf cool, you can regularly spray it with water, which will reduce the temperature quickly. Additionally, installing shade structures or using light-colored infill can help minimize heat absorption. Some advanced turf products also come with cooling technology built into the fibers like Cool Blue Hollow Olive, which helps maintain a more comfortable surface temperature. Even on hot days, the turf cools down quickly once it’s shaded or the sun begins to set.

Yes, like any surface exposed to direct sunlight, artificial grass can warm up on very hot days—especially in darker colors and dense turf styles. However, there are several ways to keep it comfortable for people and pets.
Why turf heats up:
Sunlight is absorbed by the fibers and infill, raising surface temperature.
Darker shades and taller, denser turf tend to retain more heat.
Ways to keep it cool:
Cooling Infill – Use products like T°Cool® infill that reduce surface temperatures by up to 30–50°F through evaporative cooling.
Lighter-colored turf options – These reflect more sunlight and absorb less heat.
Shade solutions – Plant trees, install shade sails, or use patio umbrellas over play areas.
Regular rinsing – Spraying turf with water briefly cools the surface for immediate use.
Avoid heat-retaining materials nearby – Dark pavers or asphalt can radiate extra heat onto turf.
For pet areas:
Install turf with permeable backing and cooling infill so pets’ paws stay comfortable.
Always check the turf temperature before allowing pets or children to play during extreme heat.
Bottom line: Modern artificial grass paired with cooling infill and thoughtful placement can stay comfortable year-round, even in sunny climates.
Our re-engineered Cool Blue Hollow series of artificial grass is made of fibers with a hole in it (like a straw), such fiber design will help trapping moistures inside the fiber and keep the temperature down after water being sprayed on. TCool is an infill product that will help dramatically reduce the heat of the turf once applied, the Cool Blue Hollow products and the TCool infills are not contradicted one another, definitely can be used together to achieve the ultimate cooling results. So I will always to recommend both for the best cooling effectiveness of your artificial grass surface. Both our SBlade and Cool Blue series are excellent artificial grass, you can’t go wrong with either of them. They are a bit different in color, and most important difference is that the fibers are engineered totally different and backing colors are also different:

The Tcool comes in as 50 lb per bag, and we suggest to use 1.5 to 2 lbs of infills per sq ft of artificial turf. Therefore, you will need 48-64 bags of TCool for your 1600 sf area. For any further questions, please feel free to call us at 877 796 8873 or email us at [email protected], thank you.

This is a very good question. Artificial grass can get hot in hot climates, that is a fact. Our engineers have been working very hard to develop products that can stay as cool as possible during a hot day, we have an unique technology named as "KoolMax" to bring the temperatures of turf down during a normal warm day. However, in order to prevent artificial grass from heating up in an extremely hot climate, I will suggest you to use an excellent infill product to go with your artificial grass, it is called TCool! Using this infill product with your turf, specially given some moisture, your artificial grass can be cooler by 30-50 F degrees in a hot day! Here is the link to our TCool infill: https://www.globalsynturf.com/tcool-infill

Yes, it is quite common that people to mix different type of infills when it comes to artificial grass installations. However, the end results of each different type of infills won’t be at their best, in your case, the turf will be cooling down but won’t be as much once Tcool is mixed with Zeolite, at the same time, zeolite will neutralize the dog smell but won’t be as efficient. So we typically won’t recommend the mixing of infills, rather to suggest to use the infills to address the most critical concerns.
